Space Policy
Asking policy makers for a more ambitious future in space
While space is dependent upon high technology, it also engages substantially with national and international policy. To enable the development and settlement of space, the Space Frontier Foundation frequently engages with policy makers in the U.S. Congress, the Executive Branch, and even internationally. Thus, the Foundation created the Policy Team lead by Aaron Oesterle, our Policy Director, and Jim Muncy, our Policy Committee Chairman.
Our policy goals are driven by the credo, with the goal of enabling large scale, commercially driven space settlement as soon as possible. To that end, through the Policy Project, the Foundation weighs in on various national and international issues. These include
National Priorities - When considering how and where the United States is positioning its resource, the Foundation frequently weighs in to encourage strategies that prioritize expansion and entrepreneurialism such to ensure that we are better positioned to use the resources of space to help Earth and its inhabitants.
Funding Plans - While we would love there to be unlimited funding resources for space, the Foundation recognizes that there are other areas that require National Funding, and therefore we must maximize the value of each dollar spent.
Regulatory Matters - Regulation is necessary to ensure a fair and open marketplace. The Foundation encourages a robust regulatory regime built around the idea of everyone taking part of the space enterprise, with the long term goal of lots of people living and working in space.
International Relations - Space, by its nature, involves multiple countries and international engagement. Therefore, the Policy Project also considers the international aspect of space, with the goal of enabling the universality of Space.
